ELYSBURG, Pa. — At Knoebels Amusement Resort, the rides will soon be roaring back to life.
The park announced that it will welcome back guests, starting July 1, and fans of Knoebels were thrilled.
"Knoebels has been favorite place of ours since we were kids and I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way,” said Alyssa Tombasco from Mifflinville.
"Knoebels is one of our favorite things to do over the summer, so looking forward to going on the Phoenix and the bumper cars,” said her husband, Mario.
More than 30 rides are expected to be running on opening day and most of its food stands, games, and gift shops too.
Additional attractions will be added as the season goes on.
Many people did not expect the park would open this year.
"We thought it was going to just be us having to be at home or just be doing simple things with just one or two people,” said Michaellla Briggs from Hughesville.
The park said that social distancing must be practiced and it put out this list of guidelines for visitors, including warning them to expect temporary closures and long wait times due to frequent sanitizing.
Anyone over two years old must wear a mask.
"I think the only problem might be just trying to get the smaller children to comply, especially with wearing the masks,” said Emily Scheib from Halifax.
The last two weekends, Knoebels has stationed food trucks at the entrance to its campground for folks to enjoy.
Many people heard about the food trucks through the park's Facebook page.
Tom Early and his wife came up from Maryland to visit her family in Catawissa and had to get a taste of Knoebels.
"Yeah, that's why I was excited to come over here,” said Early.
Jamie Diemane and friends from Northampton County were staying at Knoebels campground and decided to give the trucks a try.
"We're going to find out. This is our first time here to see the food trucks, so it's going to be good,” said Diemane, from Bath.
The food trucks, which will be at Knoebels through Sunday, will be discontinued as the park is opening.
The resort will be open from noon until 8 p.m. daily.
The campground area of Knoebels reopened earlier this month.
