Police say several officers performed first aid in the lobby of the police station along North Franklin Street in Shamokin after a boy was brought in with a gunshot wound to the chest.
"Tried to keep him stable as best we can until the ambulance got here. Once the ambulance arrived, they scooped him, and we did contact my flight to have them on standby," said Patrolman Derek Jenkins, Shamokin Police Department.
It was just after 2 p.m. when Patrolman Derek Jenkins, other officers from the city of Shamokin, and Coal Township Police responded to a shooting between South Harrison and Vine Streets.
Police say when they arrived, no victim could be found.
Later, investigators say a good Samaritan dropped the boy off at the police station, where officers performed first aid.
The boy was then taken by ambulance to Geisinger Shamokin and later flown to Geisinger near Danville, where he underwent emergency surgery.
"So me and my friend came home and we heard gunshots wasn't sure if it was the people down the street from us or not, then we came home, and I seen the cops," said Abigail Kinsey, Shamokin.
Abigail Kinsey lives in the neighborhood where both local and state police could be seen searching in the woods.
"I'm scared now; that's why I stay in my house," said Kinsey.
"The gunshots are very common around here. People target practice, hunting, or whatever. The fact that it was so close was upsetting. I actually came out and yelled that I'll call the cops because I don't like it that close, and when I walked up front, there was already a cop pulling up saying somebody had been shot," said Kelly Whitmer, Shamokin.
Investigators say no one is in custody, but they do not believe there is any danger to the community.
Anyone with information on the shooting or who may have surveillance video in the area is asked to contact the Shamokin Police Department at (570) 648-5708.
