ELYSBURG, Pa. โ The campground is closed for the season, and no rides are running, but it's a busy day at Knoebels Amusement Resort. Employees at the park near Elysburg are putting the finishing touches on Joy Through the Grove, which opens Friday.
"Putting the pathway lights up through because once we do that, it becomes a little more difficult to move around, so that's always done this week. A lot of last-minute fine-tuning. We had some wind last night, so when we came in this morning, some things got knocked over. We did some repair work," Trevor Knoebels said.
It's the fourth straight year for the event, which features about two miles of Christmas lights. There are more than 500 light-up displays.
"We do a lot of our characters, some of our rides. Those are some of the things we focus on as we expand the displays; we do things to make it Knoebels," Knoebel said.
Trevor Knoebel says Joy Through the Grove started in 2020 as a way for Knoebels to expand its season during the pandemic.
"It was something we talked about doing for probably a couple of decades. We kicked around the idea of doing a Christmas light display someday, and we decided that someday was now," Knoebel said.
Joy Through the Grove is open nightly through December 31, except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Admission is $20 per car on weekdays and $25 on weekends.
