Everyone is familiar with gymnastics and riding horses, but what happens when you combine the two?

It's a sport called horse vaulting and these young people in Northumberland County do it twice a week.

"I really wanted to ride horses and have fun with them so I asked my friend and came and just started vaulting," said Abigail Fobia of Paxinos.

The Bear Gap Vaulting Club is a small group of children near Shamokin who do all kinds of tricks on top of a horse.

Raelyn Snyder is only six years old.

"Do the plank, I kneel, I do a lot of stuff on the horse," said Snyder.

Most of the children have only been vaulting for about a year.

"It's a lot different from riding. Some parts are easier since you don't have to worry about what your horse does so much, but a lot of parts are harder, standing as opposed to sitting and holding the reigns," said Kyla Martin of Paxinos.

Michaela Brehm grew up horse vaulting in Germany and coaches the children at Bear Gap.

"I teach the girls good sportsmanship because it's a team sport. They have to take care of each other and they have to take care of the horse," explained coach Michaela Brehm.

The vaulters are getting ready for a competition in Virginia this weekend.
