State Police: Man held in Northumberland County homicide said he wanted to 'gut' victim

State police are investigating the homicide death of Kyle Christensen in West Chillisquaque Township.

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — A 22-year-old man locked up in Northumberland County amid a homicide investigation was accused by his girlfriend of wanting to "gut" the victim, according to a criminal complaint.

Charging documents filed against Preston R. Bennett accused him of threatening Kyle Christensen, who had once dated Bennett's girlfriend. Bennett was suspicious his girlfriend had been unfaithful, according to the complaint.

Bennett and Christensen fought Friday evening in West Chillisquaque Township. Bennett allegedly stabbed Christensen several times in his torso.

After the fight, Bennett reportedly told his girlfriend, "you made me stab him (Christensen) three time," according to the complaint.

Bennett was arrested and charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and possessing an instrument of crime.

Christensen, 28, initially survived the fight. He was rushed to a hospital in Lewisburg and then flown by helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, where he died.

An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday morning. Charges could be amended after the autopsy, state police said.

Meanwhile, Bennett remains locked up at the Northumberland County Jail without bail. A preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled March 6.
