SUNBURY -- Coats of every size, color and style fill the racks at the Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA in Sunbury.
Timothy Willis of Sunbury stopped by the Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA to check out the selection of coats for himself and his family. Each and every coat, hat, scarf and glove is free, so Willis did not have to worry about money.
"I'm down here to see if I can find a coat for my little daughter too. She's eight so I thought I'd get her a coat," Willis said.
The "Y" In Sunbury is in the middle of its 11th annual free coat drive. This year more than 1,000 coats were donated. Jeffrey Deitrick knew exactly what he was looking for.
"I'm going to look for one that I can put under this one because I like to wear layers. It's the best way to dress in the wintertime, especially with this storm coming in the wintertime," Deitrick said.
A company in Selinsgrove dry cleaned all of the coats, so they're ready to be taken off the rack and worn right out of the "Y"!
"A lot of people in our community can't afford coats and hats and gloves, so it's great that they can come here," Molly Aungst said.
The people we spoke with say it is the perfect time of year for a free coat drive.
"There's a lot of people out there with the jobs not out there who need winter coats. There's a lot of homeless who need help. It's good that somebody is actually helping our citizens," Deitrick said.
"People don't have hardly any money to get anything you know what I mean? It's just a hard thing to do," Willis said.
The free coat giveaway continues through Wednesday morning at the Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA in Sunbury.
