SUNBURY, Pa. — Two people are dead after a fire Saturday in Northumberland County.
The coroner said Sunday that he will not release the names of the victims.
Instead, he cited an ongoing state police fire marshal investigation. That's all that, according to the Daily Item newspaper.
The fire broke out at a home along South 4th Street and Walnut Street in Sunbury around 3 p.m.
Crews fought the flames for hours, and officials say two people died as a result of the fire.
We're still waiting for answers on who are the victims and what sparked the flames.
John Litz, a nearby neighbor, says the two people who died were a young woman and her 2-year-old son.
Litz says he tried to help put out the fire with his garden hose.
"The back porch fell down, and I have a propane tank back there. And all I was trying to do was wet the area to keep it from spreading this way," said John Litz, neighbor.
The flames also spread to a neighboring home, badly damaging it.
There is no word yet on what caused the fire. It is under investigation in Northumberland County.
