Elysburg Haunted House open for those who dare to enter

Newswatch 16's Mackenzie Aucker gives us a peek inside.

ELYSBURG, Pa. — Take a drive at the end of Gun Club Road near Elysburg, and you'll find a haunted house. It looks less frightening during the day, but it's a different story at night.

"We have to think each year on different things we wanna do or make some changes to keep the interest alive and well," said Wayne Horne, Elysburg Haunted House.

This is the 49th year for the Elysburg Haunted House. The Elysburg and Overlook Fire Companies run the haunted house, which is the biggest fundraiser for the two fire companies. The haunted house has grown throughout the years.

"It's a themed, somewhat of a horror-themed entrance to our house now, and some of the folks change up their areas maybe every two, three years; some places stay the same," said Horne.

Wayne Horne has been involved with the haunted house for many years and credits the volunteers for their creativity.

"We themed that area—one of our other members came up with a plan, and he took off with it and there's some props involved," said Horne.

The attraction takes 45 minutes to walk through and attracts over a thousand people from all over each year. Newswatch 16 got a look inside to see what visitors can expect when they visit the haunted house.

"The first attraction is what we call the black hole. You go in, it's a fog-filled area that spins around like a—it's a black hole, and that's the very first of several—what we made is not really permanent, but they're in buildings a lot of cases through our pathways," described Horne.

This is the last weekend for the Elysburg Haunted House. Gates open at 6 p.m., and walkthroughs start at 7. Tickets are $20, and all proceeds are split between the fire companies.
