NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — Campaign signs line the walkways outside this polling place in Sunbury, but that doesn't mean people lined up to vote. Election officials say voter turnout was slow in parts of Northumberland County, steady in others.
One place that was busy throughout the day was Rockefeller Township, just outside Sunbury.
"I always vote. I've always voted since I was old enough, and I never miss an election," Diane Luberecki said.
"I like to vote. I vote every election regardless," Jerry McCloud said.
While this is not a presidential election, there are quite a few local races in Northumberland County.
"District attorney is important to me, the local county commissioners' races," Jim McClincy said.
"I was very interested in the commissioners' race and also the school board," Luberecki said.
"This is the local issues, from school board to how our taxpayer money gets spent," John Jackson said.
Jackson is a history teacher. He's teaching his students about the importance of voting, especially in local elections like this one.
"Whether it be from sheriff to school board, you still have a voice in local elections. So many people discount it and say it's only a local thing, but this is the most basic element in elections. It impacts us every single day," Jackson said.
