Cyclist injured in Northumberland County crash

It happened around 5 a.m. on Tuesday on the southbound lanes of Route 61 near Elysburg.

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — A crash between a bicycle and a garbage truck caused traffic problems Tuesday morning in Northumberland County.

It happened around 5 a.m. on Tuesday on the southbound lanes of Route 61 near Elysburg.

Both lanes of Route 61 south were closed between Valley Avenue in Shamokin Township and Badmans Hill Road in Ralpho Township.

State police say the 18-year-old bicyclist was traveling north on Route 61 when he was hit by the truck. Officers said he was dragged about 300 feet and suffered serious injuries.

There is no word on charges related to the crash.
