UPDATE 10-19-18 / 10:30 PM: Police say Route 147 is back open tonight.
WEST CHILLISQUAQUE TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- State police in Northumberland County continue to investigate a deadly crash involving a tour bus.
A driver was killed after slamming into that bus which authorities say was carrying nearly 40 people from New Zealand and Australia.
Tow trucks hauled away vehicles involved in a deadly crash hours after it occurred here on Route 147 near Montandon.
State police say that crash happened around two in the afternoon.
A black pickup truck, heading north, crossed the double yellow lines and sideswiped this red pickup truck.
The black pickup then slammed into this tour bus.
The driver of the pickup died.
Route 147 in the area was closed for hours while investigators did their work.
Traffic was detoured around the crash site.
Police say the driver of the red pickup truck was not hurt.
Troopers say there were close to 40 people on the tour bus; they are from New Zealand and Australia.
It's not clear why they were in this part of Pennsylvania.
They were taken to area hospitals to be checked out.
Evangelical Community Hospital says it took 33 people from that tour bus.
Those who needed to be treated did so for minor injuries.
By six in the evening the hospital said most of those passengers from the bus had been released to the tour company, which was handling transportation and hotel lodgings.
State police continue to investigate the crash.
Names of those involved have not been released.
