SUNBURY, Pa. — Jessica Beninsky loves her 5-year-old corgi named Watson. Beninsky doesn't just love Watson, she adores all corgis. That's one of the reasons she organized an event in Sunbury this weekend called Coffee with Corgis.
"It is the first-ever Northeast Pennsylvania corgi convention. So, there will be a lot of corgis, but any dog breeds are welcome," Beninsky said.
Beninsky is expecting more than 100 corgis at the event on Saturday at the Sunbury Station.
IV Coffee Company has a special corgi-themed menu. Other nearby businesses are also getting into the spirit. The Squeeze In has a corgi-themed hot dog with crushed pretzels and mustard.
Saturday's event will feature a corgi costume contest, a dog cake-eating contest, food trucks, and a tattoo artist doing corgi tattoos.
"There's going to be about 20 vendors here, all with different things—corgi, dog-themed things. We will have a lot of raffle baskets with corgi-themed things," Beninsky said.
The event raises money for Watson's Wish Foundation, the nonprofit Beninsky started in 2022, named after her own pup. The organization raises money for dogs to get lifesaving surgeries when their owners cannot afford them.
"So many dogs are euthanized simply because of a lack of money. That's where we want to step in and save as many dogs as possible and give them the answer yes to life for their dogs," Beninsky said.
Watson's Wish Foundation has already helped quite a few dogs.
"Last year, it was nine dogs, and this year, our goal is 15, and I think we'll have over ten dogs in April," Beninsky said.
Coffee with Corgis is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sunbury Station. All dog breeds are welcome.
