MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP -- It was business as usual at Car Quest Auto Parts near Mount Carmel, just one day after an out of control dump truck damaged the store and six other vehicles.
"I didn't get much sleep last night because I was thinking about everything that went on and how it happened. Then I thought about everything I had to do this morning," Ed Greco said.
Police say the truck was coming from Columbia County to make a delivery near Mount Carmel, when the driver, Ronald Dowd of Drums, lost control. Police say Dowd crashed into parked vehicles, sending a truck through the building, and the truck carrying 23 tons of coal dust went down an embankment and landed on a van.
Car Quest Auto Parts stayed open during all of the chaos. The owners say they wanted to make sure their customers were taken care of and that their customer's businesses did not suffer.
"You still have customers that need their parts. They're running their own business and they need parts to get their cars repaired. We wanted to get them their parts and give them good service," Greco said.
The crash caused a big mess at Car Quest Auto Parts, a big enough mess to call in a professional cleaning crew.
"We knew there was a lot of coal here, but most of it is all cleaned up. We're just basically getting the finer coal dust. But it's everywhere," Donna Kehler said.
"There's an awful lot. We'll be finding coal in six months. Coal dust and glass, you're never going to get it all out," Greco said.
Workers installed new doors at the auto parts store, and will soon put in new windows. The driver of the dump truck, Ronald Dowd was treated and released from Geisinger Medical Center near Danville. Police have not said if he will be charged.
