The Squeeze In anniversary celebration in Sunbury

This Sunbury landmark is giving back to the community and celebrating decades of dogs.

SUNBURY, Pa. — A popular restaurant in Northumberland County gave out 500 free hot dogs on Wednesday to celebrate its 79th anniversary.

When it comes to familiar restaurants in Sunbury, The Squeeze In is at the top of the list.

"I'd walk all the time and my mouth would start watering every time I'd hit a certain part of town, smelling this stuff," said Nathan Lloyd, who has been coming for more than 20 years.

The Squeeze In opened in 1945 with five stools and a window in case you want your hot dogs to go.

"I think that's what makes good places work, is when you come back time and again and get the same type of service, the same type of quality," said owner Chris Snyder, who is proud of and excited about his family's business.

This month marks the Squeeze In's 79th anniversary, so Snyder is throwing a party. He's giving away free hot dogs to the first 500 customers.

"Free popcorn, bottle of water, a special sticker, we're going to have a photo booth from Booth Babes—we're excited about that—a prize wheel from the radio station, Plinko from our State Farm agent, a lot of support from our community."

Snyder said he's marking 79 years because he recently went through a difficult time and came out of it on the other side and wants to celebrate the present.

"Honor the past. Remember those who came before us but live for today. Today is today, so let's do it now."

Snyder plans to throw an even bigger celebration next year for The Squeeze In's 80th anniversary.
