ELYSBURG, Pa. — According to a letter sent out to employees, Boyer's Food Market in Elysburg is set to close at the end of the year. The letter states the store is closing because the Elysburg location is unprofitable.
"Boyer's is a nice store. This is a family attitude always here, nice people and nice workers, but it will be a shame to see them go," said Harry Veight of Snydertown.
"I understand that they need to do what they need to do for their business, but it is a big loss for Elysburg," said Jennifer Lapointe of Elysburg.
Boyer's Food Market is the only grocery store in Elysburg. Once it closes, folks will have to travel to Danville, Catawissa, Sunbury, or Mt. Carmel for groceries.
"Where are we going to go now? Giant is like the only one," Joe Lamonica of Ralpho Township said.
"I am from Snydertown, so I will be stuck in Sunbury," added Veight.
"Very disappointed because it is so nice to get in and out. They are very friendly, it is just so quick and easy. Much easier than going to a town that is 20 minutes away," Lapointe stated.
Lapointe says Boyer's Food Markets has been a staple in both the community and her family.
"My mother is going to be very sad because she is 84, and she loves it down here. She is really, really going to miss it," she told Newswatch 16.
The letter says all current employees at the Elysburg location will be offered positions at other Boyer's Food market stores.
