Police called to Northumberland County fire company over bomb threat

A bomb threat forced the closure of Americus Hose Company on Monday.

SUNBURY, Pa. — An investigation is underway Monday in Northumberland County after a bomb threat was called into a fire company in Sunbury.

According to police, the threat was called in to the Americus Hose Company following a social media post from a now-former Americus Hose Company volunteer firefighter.

According to an Americus Hose Company official, the former firefighter posted his personal opinion about what happened in Butler, PA, on Saturday, where an assassination attempt was made against former President Trump at a rally.

That social media post is being investigated by the Sunbury Police Department and the Northumberland County District Attorney.

Sunbury police are putting extra security measures in place.

"We have increased patrols in the city of Sunbury for the foreseeable future with the thanks to the city council and the Mayor Josh Brosious. Sunbury Police Department's main concern is the safety of the residents of the city of Sunbury and will remain our main concern," said Chief Travis Bremigen, Sunbury Police Department.

The fire company is back open at this hour in Northumberland County.
