Two arrested for allegedly releasing 200 mink in Northumberland County

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — Two people are in custody for allegedly releasing 200 mink early Saturday morning in Northumberland County.

Pennsylvania State troopers were called to a mink farm along Route 890 in Rockefeller Township shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday for a report of two people caught on camera releasing the mink. 

Christopher Legere, 25, and Cara Mitrano, 27, both from Massachusetts, were arrested.

Legere and Mitrano face agricultural vandalism, damage to property, theft by unlawful taking, cruelty to animals, and other charges. 

Both are awaiting arraignments in Northumberland County. 

This isn't the first time mink have been released from the farm. Someone broke into the farm in September 2023 and released thousands of mink. 

Live mink can be dangerous to residents and small animals and should be reported to the Pennsylvania Game Commission at 833-742-4868 (833-PGC-HUNT) or 833-742-9453 (833-PGC-WILD).
