100 cows safe after barn fire in Northumberland County

Crews responded to the blaze in Shamokin Township Thursday evening

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. — Numerous fire crews responded to a large barn fire in Northumberland County Thursday. 

According to Overlook Fire Company Engine 290, the fire was reported in a barn along Ash Road in Shamokin Township around 6:30 p.m. 

The owners were able to save 100 cows, but the barn and the hay inside of it are considered a total loss, according to firefighters.

There were no injuries.

Investigators have not said how the fire started.
