MAHONING TOWNSHIP -- A worker is dead after a workplace accident at Geisinger Medical Center near Danville.
Hospital officials say a worker on a scaffold fell to his death.
It happened Wednesday at Geisinger's Foss Clinic.
A contractor has been working to restore the bricks on the building
Officials say the employee of MPS Restoration of Berwick was working on the exterior of the eighth floor of the Foss Clinic when he fell.
The Columbia County coroner says the three-person crew was getting ready for their lunch break and they were preparing to bring down the scaffolding when the 47-year-old man from Berwick fell 100 feet to his death.
The coroner identified the victim as Stephen Kuchka of Berwick.
The coroner would not say if the man was wearing a harness, but the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating.
"We take all the precautions that we can to protect ourselves from accidents, but unfortunately sometimes they occur and this is tragic," said Geisinger official Tom Sokola.
