Veterans Community Day

Organizers say the event aims to promote wellness, inclusion and support for veterans and their families.

MONTOUR COUNTY, Pa. — The Danville Area Community Center is gearing up for a big event this week, and it's all for veterans.  On Friday, the center will host its first Veterans Community Day to highlight and support resources for vets in Montour County.

"Veterans who might be struggling, yes, but veterans who are just looking for a career.  There's all kinds of opportunities.  If you have served this nation in the armed forces, there's some extra help that's available," Mark Giesen said.

The free event is for all veterans and will cover a wide range of topics.  There will be vendors and a panel discussion. CareerLink will be there as well as a hunting preserve.

"Representatives from the elected offices at the county, state and federal level.  We will have some folks here from retreats," Giesen said.

A fitness instructor from the Danville Area Community Center will also be on hand.

"We'll be talking about the fact that there is a fitness regimen that can help you ease into civilian life.  For veterans who have been out for a long time, they'll talk about the different fitness programs we have that might be able to be tailored to you," Giesen said.

Veterans Community Day is this Friday from 10 to 2 at the Danville Area Community Center. The facility offers free or low-cost memberships to veterans in the five-county area it serves.
