Twins born on Leap Day in Montour County

People born on February 29th have the rarest birthday of all, and the odds of giving birth to twins on Leap Day is one in 50,000!

DANVILLE, Pa. — Chelsea Alexander and Tyler Bebbles of Jersey Shore have a lot to celebrate. The couple gave birth to twins this week at Geisinger near Danville. Meet Oliver and Willow.

"Mom did an amazing job. They're good, healthy babies. They're beautiful," Tyler Bebbles said.

There's something unique about these babies. They were born on February 29th, Leap Day.

"I'm excited about that. We were really hoping we would make it that long. Everybody's like you'll never make it, and I was like oh we're going to make it," Chelsea Alexander said.

According to the Social Security Administration, Leap Day is the rarest birth date of all. The chances of being born on February 29th are one in 1,461. But the odds of giving birth to twins are one in 50,000!

"I'm going to tell them they have one of the coolest birthdays you can get. It's super rare to get a date like that," Alexander said.

March 11th was Chelsea's original due date, but she had a c-section scheduled for February 29th. Since leap years only happen every four years, does that mean fewer birthday parties for the twins? Chelsea and Tyler say no way. They have something special planned for Oliver and Willow.

"We're going to celebrate Oliver's birthday because he came out first on the 28th, and we're going to celebrate Willow's birthday on the first. And then every four years, we'll celebrate their birthdays together on the 29th," Alexander said.

Oliver and Willow join three older siblings at home. Mom and the twins are all doing great.
