Montour County art studio helps children and adults find their creative side

Newswatch 16's Mackenzie Aucker shares how Zanzart Art Studio is helping people tap into their creativity.

DANVILLE, Pa. — Zanzart Art Studio sits on Mill Street in Danville. The spot is no stranger to creativity. Suzanne Walzer previously used the space as an art school for children, but when the pandemic hit, she moved to Virginia.

Walzer says she became very ill, but the thought of helping others with their artistry kept her going.

"What kept me alive was dreaming about coming back to Danville and doing what I'm doing here, which is just getting people involved with there and in touch with their creative side—children, and the elderly, all the way in between," said Suzanne Walzer, owner of Zanzart.

Walzer recovered and then moved back to Montour County. She opened Zanzart two months ago to help children and adults find their creative side.

"And performing downstairs, anybody that wants to perform can perform downstairs in the booth—music, art, juggling, whatever they get in touch with their creative side they can do," said Walzer.

Once a week children between 3 and 5 come to the art studio where they do 20 minutes of singing and dancing.

"And then I have tables that are for children I set up in there, and we do art with like real paints, real paint brushes, and I have to put on something that doesn't hurt to get—cause it paint goes everywhere so that's what we do here with the young children," said Walzer.

Walzer says she wants people to think of being creative as more than just a hobby.

"It's a way to—it's a modality to consciousness and to open up a part of you—you learn a lot about yourself in doing that, so it's more than just putting a pencil down on a paper and drawing. It's an exploration of who they are."

Walzer says she's working on starting an adult choir and getting more people involved in the arts.
