Danville soccer team preparing for national championship

Some soccer players from Danville are heading to the national tournament for the second straight year.

DANVILLE, Pa. — As people grabbed their Fourth of July beverages from Brewer's Outlet in Sunbury, a group of girls were outside the store selling raffle tickets, baked goods, and hot dogs.

This is the Central Susquehanna Soccer Club Phoenix team from Danville. They are heading to the National President's Cup Championship in Wichita, Kansas, for the second straight year.

"It's a great group of kids. It's very exciting to be able to do it two years in a row. It's like the equivalent of making it to the Little League World Series two years in a row," Coach Brett Michaels said.

The competitive soccer team is based in the Danville area and is made up of girls 14 and under.

"We're super excited that we made it this far because all of our hard work has definitely paid off," Kaci Grimm said.

Many of these girls have played soccer together since they were 6. They're excited for the national tournament.

"We've been training really hard, training in the heat, preparing for what it's going to be like in Kansas," Bella Snyder said.

"We've been training really hard with conditioning and stuff," Kylie Michaels said.

Last year, the team took a bus to Kansas. This year, they are flying and raising money for the trip.

"Our goal is to get them all out there by Wednesday next week. They're doing many fundraisers. They are doing carwashes. They've sold more hot dogs than I can count," Coach Michaels said.

If you'd like to help the girls raise money for their trip to nationals, they are having a carwash this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Friendship Fire Company in Danville.
