DANVILLE --The Danville Area School District hopes to make some improvements to its high school in the next few years. Officials need to figure out what should be updated and how much it will cost.
The Danville Area School District parking lot is a lot emptier in the summer months and pretty soon Pamela Horvath's house will be too. Her youngest son just graduated from Danville Area High School.
"They have got a bright future ahead of them and it started in Danville so it can't be all that bad,” said Pamela Horvath.
In the next few years Danville Area School District hopes to make some improvements to its buildings including the high school.
"The building, I have no issues with. They just put new air conditioning in the building,” said Horvath.
According to the school board president, next month a group of architects will walk through the district's buildings. It's part of a feasibility study.
"I don't think there is any harm in looking to see where their strengths and weaknesses are if they can be realistic about it," said Horvath.
"If they want to do it and they can get money that's alright with me,” said Mark Wertman.
While the feasibility survey hasn't been completed yet, the district already has an idea of what it would like to upgrade. Most of the projects would happen right here at the high school.
The district wants to improve security, add an auditorium, improve biology labs, and potentially upgrade the athletic fields. These are ideas not everyone we spoke with are in favor of.
"The turf,I don't think they need that turf, I’m sorry,” said Ruth Haas.
The school expects to spend around $10 million to $12 million on improvements. It's money that could come from grants, but school board officials say has potential to raise taxes.
"Our kids come out with a good education so they can go in to college if it costs a little money so what? I mean that's what we have to do for our kids," said Wertman.
Improvements to the school could begin as early as next summer in Danville.
