STROUDSBURG, Pa. — Carrying the cross, worshippers took to the streets of Stroudsburg for the 'Annual Walk of Christ.'
"It's Good Friday, we have the faith, and we want to be here," said Delores Kappenhagen of Stroud Township.
The morning starts inside St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church on 9th Street. Members of seven churches across the area come together to recreate the events leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus.
"In this time of so much going on in the world, we can come together in this space and remember our reason for Easter, our understanding, and that you cannot have resurrection and celebration without death," explained Elizabeth Koerner, Pastor of St. John's Church.
The walk has been a tradition for nearly 35 years.
At each stop, more than one hundred people join in prayer to remember the true meaning of the Easter holiday.
"It's a family tradition. We come every year that we can. It's an amazing event for the community to get together and the Christian community, we want to support that," said Sean Farrell of Stroudsburg.
Worshippers tell Newswatch 16 they wouldn't miss this walk for the world, and some have been participating for decades.
"When I heard they had these stations around the town for the different churches, doesn't matter what type. I thought that was very important," said Nancy Ihnen of Bushkill.
The walk brings everyone one step closer to Easter Sunday.
