BRODHEADSVILLE, Pa. — Boxes of clothing fill the inside of the living area of Paul's House, the Valor Clinic Foundation's facility near Brodheadsville. The items will go to veterans in need. It's part of the organization's new Walk in Wednesday program.
"For vets and to come in with their family, if they need hygiene items, clothing, furniture, food that we can provide some resources for them, a place they can come where they know that there'll be people that can provide them basic needs," said Mark Baylis, the founder of the organization.
Baylis says the new program is a way to reach more veterans who need a little help.
"Not everyone that really needs our help is homeless or comes to a homeless outreach event. We give clothing, food, hygiene items, survival items at those events and we have more capacity to help then that, so we decided, what if we give people the opportunity that are kind of teetering maybe financially to come in and let us know what they need?"
Veterans will also be able to ask about a variety of services or programs offered at Paul's House.
"Maybe they're having some struggles integrating back into society in the war-to-peace transition. We have a good program—Veterans Unstoppable—for that. We have veterans service officers on staff that can file claims benefits and get them help in the VA health system."
The first Walk in Wednesday is March 20 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. After that, the new program will take place on the third Wednesday of every month.
