Voters in Monroe County weigh in on Biden dropping out of presidential race

Newswatch 16's Emily Kress spoke with voters in the Poconos about the President's decision to drop out of the race for the White House.

MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — Voters in the Poconos are weighing in following President Joe Biden's decision to bow out of the presidential race.

" I'm proud of him for making the move that he made," said Brent Reid.

"I feel sorry for him but I never did like him, I just have to tell it like it is," said Linda Condento of Mount Pocono.

In Monroe County, there's mixed reaction following the abrupt ending to biden's campaign. Especially after the president vowed to stay in the race following backlash after his debate performance last month.

"I thought it was something that was going to happen. Eventually, that man could not continue under the situation; it's physically not possible mentally wasn't possible, and at some point, someone had to make a decision," said Richard Kozak of Tobyhanna Township.

"He was going to fight it all the way, and then all of the sudden overnight, he was like "forget it, I quit," maybe it's pressure from the democrats, and they were getting on his case," said Jack Rodriguez of Effort.

Voters tell Newswatch 16 that a lot can happen between now and November. Some say their minds are made up, while others have lots to consider.

Back in 2020, Biden secured 53-percent of the vote in Monroe County. While former president Donald Trump claimed 46-percent.

"That team lost, and I think it is time for a new team, and that new team is going to be Trump and the Republicans," said Kozak.

"I've got to do a lot of thinking, you know because things are switching almost every day, and now this shocker that he is bailing out," said Rodriguez.

Voters say the next step is to wait and see who becomes the Democratic nominee.

Vice President Kamala Harris has received a number of endorsements following her announcement that she intends to seek the nomination.
