Veterinarian explains what not to feed your dog on Thanksgiving

A veterinarian in the Poconos is helping pet owners and their precious pups stay safe ahead of Turkey Day.

MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — Thinking about sneaking your pooch Thanksgiving day scraps? Be careful what you give them.

Dr. Samantha Thompson is a veterinarian at Pocono Peak Veterinary Center near Stroudsburg.

She tells Newswatch 16 that a little bit of turkey breast is safe but to stay away from bones and avoid items like mashed potatoes that can hurt their stomach.

"A lot of the Thanksgiving stuff is very rich food, and it can cause pancreatitis, can cause some vomiting, some diarrhea," said Dr. Samantha Thompson, Pocono Peak Veterinary Center.

Dr. Thompson also reminds pet owners to tell their guests not to feed their dogs.
