SNYDERSVILLE -- A Thanksgiving Day tradition that ended two years ago in the Poconos is making a comeback.

Alumni from Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg are bringing back the Turkey Day Game.

Dozens and dozens of alumni from Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg took the field here in Snydersville ready to bring back a game they love.

"It's the phoenix rising, I think it's time for the game to come back,” said East Stroudsburg High School alumni Steve Kulick from the class of '76.

It’s the new Turkey Day Game for the rival high schools in Monroe County. After the 2013 game, both school districts decided to end the traditional turkey day game between the high school athletes, something that many alumni always looked forward to.

''It`s something that's missed first and foremost but it's a tradition that even after you're done playing, it's something that you try to get back to.  If you're in the area you're going to make it,” said Stroudsburg alumni Frank Azarelo from the class of 2001.

These former quarterbacks, linebackers and more organized this game on Facebook.

"It was a lot that the turkey day game was taken off the roster.  But it's a lot that the alumni  are willing to gather together and bring the game back,” said East Stroudsburg High School alumni Debora Loch from the class of 1985.

Both the players and the spectators hope this Turkey Day Game is only the beginning and that this game grows in the years to come.

“It's extremely exciting because it's the love of the game on Turkey Day, you can't put it in words what Turkey Day Game means to East Stroudsburg and Stroudsburg people,” said Kulick.

It might not be the official ‘Battle for the Little Brown Jug’ but these die-hard alumni say it’s just as fun.

"We're still Stroudsburg vs East Stroudsburg, Cavaliers vs. Mounties.  Plain and simple,” said Loch.
