East Stroudsburg, PA -- Many people are still wondering what caused a 20-year-old man to walk into the Walmart in East Stroudsburg reportedly armed with two guns and a machete.

That man was shot and killed Saturday night leaving many questions for investigators to try to answer.

State police are still investigating the scare at that Walmart in East Stroudsburg. They have not released an official motive.

However, family of the armed man shot by police say he was dealing with mental issues.

A woman posted to Facebook that the 20-year-old man shot and killed by police in East Stroudsburg is her brother, Andrew Todd.

While police continue to investigate why Todd walked into the Walmart armed with at least two guns and a machete, Todd's sister posted a lengthy and emotional message on Facebook. It said in part,

"my brother suffered from depression, multiple personality disorder, and anxiety disorders. He was an alcoholic and when he drank he went into fits of rage, becoming a different person."

A person police say scared and endangered the lives of people inside the Walmart. A day later some shoppers here are still shaken just hearing the news.

"It was scary. I thought it was some suicide by cop thing, because you are pulling out guns on people and not shooting," said Christina Tauriello of East Stroudsburg.

Scarier than what happened, for some, is what could've happened.

"You don't know what that guy was capable of doing. He could've just aired it out killed kids, innocent people you know, so they did what they had to do," said Xavier Petty of East Stroudsburg.

At a time when police shootings have been highly scrutinized, many in Monroe County are praising officers for their fast response that may have helped save lives.

"You've got the good and the bad. We are all human we all make irrational decisions at times. But the one that they made last night was on point. Because who knows how many people could've been massacred last night," said Robert Vines of East Stroudsburg.

Police have not said if the guns Andrew Todd had were loaded, or if he threatened to shoot anyone.

They did say Todd was warned to put down his weapon, but he continued to point it at officers when they shot him.

Two Stroud Area Regional Police officers who shot Todd are on modified duty while state police investigate.
