EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The new signs are up, and traffic is flowing differently on this part of Crystal Street in East Stroudsburg.
It's the first day of drivers traveling south-bound from Analomink Street to Washington Street.
"I almost knocked the divider down because I forgot they were closing it off, but I am happy they are doing it. I think it's one step in the right direction," said Connie Defranco.
"I think it's fine. I had no issues except for people stopping and wondering what's going on, maybe not informed. But no problem parking, it worked well," explained Scott Rovito of Stroudsburg.
Newswatch 16 found lots of people out and about on Crystal Street, which has become the heart of the borough.
"There are so many nice eating places and places to hang out it's really nice," said Defranco.
Borough officials say the move to one-way was all about safety. People who frequent Crystal Street say that's not a bad thing.
"There's people crossing the road here all the time. You have to be smart about it, obviously, but now you just have to worry about traffic coming one way and not worry about the guy zooming down in the other way," said Rovito.
"With the growth of the street and community and the amount of activities, I don't think it's a bad thing. I think it's a safe decision," said Greg Munch of East Stroudsburg.
People also wonder, with this change, what else is in store for the future of the area.
"They've been talking about the train coming for years and years and years. Is that a bigger piece of it that might help things out down the road, obviously East Stroudsburg is one of those stops supposedly so time will tell," said Munch.
The section of Crystal Street from Washington Street to Ridge Street will remain a two-way lane.
