EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — Drivers going up and down Crystal Street in East Stroudsburg will soon see changes in the traffic pattern in a few weeks to increase safety.
"Everything I really want is here; it's got my barbershop. I love Trackside. Derailed has always been a great spot as well," said Nick Olton of Stroudsburg.
But soon the flow of traffic on Crystal Street will become a one-way going southbound from Analomink Street to Washington Street.
Interim borough manager Peter Marshall says the change is in an effort to increase safety.
"People making deliveries and picking things up stop in the lane because there is no parking close, and that means that traffic behind them has to go into the lane facing traffic, and that is not safe," explained Marshall.
Borough officials say more signs will be unveiled soon to alert drivers of the upcoming change, and there will also be minor changes to parking.
"On the left side will change, it will be facing the other direction so that people pulling in can pull into the parking. Right now, it's facing the other direction, so that will be changed
People who work on Crystal Street tell Newswatch 16 traffic can get a little chaotic during the really busy times of the day, so they're hoping the one-way will help alleviate that.
"I think it might help local businesses too; it gives people a chance to go one way and check out the businesses that are here. Overall, I think it will help with congestion; I don't think some people will like it though because, change," said Shauna Kohl, a server at Trackside.
"It's going to make traffic a lot harder, and honestly, no one is going to experience what Crystal Street is all about. Going one way then the other way; everyone is going to go in circles to see what it's all about," said Olton.
Crystal Street in East Stroudsburg will officially become a one-way on Thursday, June 27th.
