TANNERSVILLE, Pa. — It's been a busy few years of renovations and additions at TLC Park in Tannersville.
From adding a dog park and splash pad to upgrading the basketball court and all the playground equipment.
But now, it's about to get a whole lot bigger. Pocono Township is in the process of buying the old Glenwood Hall, which is next door to the park.
"Our park is a little over 10 acres and this property is a little over 5 acres. So right away it expands park property by about 50 percent. It gives us more access to the Pocono Creek. There's a lot of Wildlife activity in that area, the opportunity to build out some more trails and be able to do some loops throughout the middle of Tannersville," said Taylor Munoz, Pocono Township Manager.
Plans for the property are still in the works but could include a space for seniors and offer resources for families.
Jennifer Wise is the real estate broker for the property owners. She says they are thrilled the township wants to offer it as another space for the community.
"It was built in 1832, the front building, and they have been there for like 45 years with their family. They ran a commercial bakery. They lived there and enjoyed the property for most of their lives, and they've decided it was time and sell and asked me to put it on the market and approach the township," said Wise.
Purchasing the hall is part of a much bigger project to expand TLC Park and create a greenway for the township's hopefully new municipal complex right at the former Northampton Community College.
"We're excited they are the buyer they want. They want it preserved and want the community to be able to enjoy what they've enjoyed," Wise said.
Preserving and restoring the property is exactly what the township intends to do.
"There's been a lot of reactive development over time. There have been a lot of historic properties that have, for better or for worse, gone by the wayside, and so this is acknowledging that this Glenwood Hall property is acknowledged as one of the last historic properties, and they're committed to keeping its look and restoring it's purpose for the community," said Munoz.
The sale of Glenwood Hall is likely to happen in May.
As for the former Northampton Community College campus, negotiations are still ongoing.
