Tannersville Wawa celebrates opening day

Newswatch 16's Emily Kress found some excited customers on the first day in Pocono Township.

TANNERSVILLE, Pa. — On Route 611 in Tannersville, you'll find Monroe County's newest Wawa.

"We've been watching them build and build, and now it's here, first day here. So we came to check it out," said Fred Williams from Reeders.

This new location marks the county's eighth Wawa location. Kyle Nielson, the store's general manager, says lots of people came out bright and early for the occasion.

"Over 200 people were here lined up around the store here. Some were here at 3 in the morning waiting for their free t-shirt," Nielson said.

When Newswatch 16 stopped by, the crowd kept coming through the doors to get a look at the new store. Some couldn't help but think of what this used to be.

"It's beautiful, great, but we liked the restaurant before here. It was the Tannersville Inn, but it unfortunately went," Mark Kotoe said.

Wawa lovers tell Newswatch 16 that when they come to Wawa, there are certain items they just have to have.

"We shared a bag today, but we got buffalo chicken wraps with ranch dressing. We love that," Lauren Maula said. "We got some Wawa iced tea."

"My son in high school, they always talk about the Wawa sandwiches. That is their thing. For me, I'm a community guy. The gas is always good, the coffee is always good," Williams said.

"Coffee, that's pretty much everything," Kotoe said.

"And the pretzel. It's so good," Jenna Amantea said.

This location won't be the last store to pop up. Several other Wawa locations are planned in other parts of Monroe County.
