STROUD TOWNSHIP -- The wild weather Wednesday night hit parts of the Poconos hard.
Tree crews worked to cut up what Mother Nature ripped out of the ground near Bartonsville.
Bill hatch said the tree was the largest one on his property until now.
"I think it was a wind shear," Hatch said. "There was a lot of wind that came through and about 15 minutes later, I got a phone call that there was a tree down on my property."
Hatch feels he lucked out in the long run.
"Missed everything, no cars, no house, just fell."
Water rushes down into his side yard, too, making a pond in his lawn.
Lightning struck a tree along Wigwam Park Road and went straight through the power lines and surged directly into a home.
"All of a sudden we heard a big pop," Delia Palmer recalled. "And then when we looked behind the little fridge that we have in the room, we saw a gush of fire."
A damaged electrical cord shows how much power ran through her house. Palmer says every appliance in her house is fried.
Along Hallet Road outside Stroudsburg, Gerry Smiley went to pick up tree branches beside Cranberry Creek.
"And as I picked the first one up and stood up, I noticed the end of the bridge was gone."
PennDOT closed the road that leads to lots of homes in Penn Estates. It won't reopen until at least next week.
Smiley isn't surprised he'll need to take a detour.
"Oh, it poured here last night, the wind blew, thunder, lightning, I thought it was July! It was awesome," Smiley said.
