Staying cool at Camelbeach

As the temperatures rise, people are looking for ways to stay cool. For those in the Poconos, that means a trip to the waterpark.

TANNERSVILLE, Pa. — A hot day calls for grabbing the swimsuit and rushing into the water.

That's exactly what people did at Camelbeach Waterpark near Tannersville.

"Sitting by the pool sipping mango juice, with sunblock under an umbrella," said Henry Matue of Scranton.

Newswatch 16 found lots of people doing their best to stay cool. Some like to hang out in the wave pool or hit the water slides, but others say the regular pool will do the job.

"Just being in the water to cool off.. the lazy river! I'm going in the lazy river soon. Definitely, I need to be lazy on vacation week," said Emily Pareti of New Jersey.

"We're just looking for something fun and family friendly to beat out the heat, the area has so many great water parks we figured we'd take advantage of them right at the beginning," said Christina Van Wert of Scranton.

Officials with Camelbeach say they're expecting big crowds because of the scorching hot forecast this week... something they don't typically get the first week of the season.

"We all know the weather in the Poconos can be a little unpredictable at times also. There has been some times in the past where we didn't luck out for an opening week when it comes to weather, but this week it's almost like we lucked out too much, it is so hot," said Molly Coneybeer, Marketing Director at Camelback Resort,

People at Camelbeach tell Newswatch 16 that with temperatures only rising later this week, they are already making plans on how they're going to stay cool.

Tomorrow, we are going to Lake Wallenpaupack. Somebody we know has a boat. We are going to go on the boat and do some swimming in the lake," said Laura Amador of New Jersey.

"Maybe the Splash pad here and there but a lot of AC too keep the little ones, we are very fair-skinned so we have to keep the sun at an appropriate distance for her," said Van Wert.
