Spooky Stroudsburg offers fun for all

It is spooky season, especially in one borough in the Poconos. Newswatch 16's Amanda Eustice shows all the Halloween happenings in downtown Stroudsburg.

STROUDSBURG, Pa. — Skeletons, spiders, and all things spooky line the outside of businesses on Main Street in Stroudsburg.

The borough is getting ready to welcome thousands of visitors for  'Spooky Stroudsburg' in a little over a week.

"Stroudsburg has a lot of spirit when it comes to the Halloween season. They really put on a great show. There's a lot of dedicated businesses who every year who put a little extra into their decorating," said Trudyann Buckley, Stroud Region Open Space and Recreation Commission.

Trudyann Buckley is the recreation director of Stroud Region Open Space and Recreation Commission.

She says this year, people can get in on the Halloween fun early with a scavenger hunt.

Clues at 15 different businesses around the downtown help you solve the mystery about an Astronaut.

The first clue is located at  Pocono Arts Council on Main Street.

"Alicia, the Astronaut, is looking to visit every single planet in the solar system, including some of the dwarf planets. So you get to find out where she's been and help her figure out where she hasn't been yet," said Buckley.

Finding out where she hasn't been is the answer.

Business owners in the borough say the scavenger hunt and Spooky Stroudsburg draws thousands of people.

"It really brings community, and it brings a lot of business downtown. I mean, the kids are done, you know, trick or treating; it's time to eat. I think it brings a lot of attention to the downtown as well and all the good things that are happening here," said Amy Galligan, Keller Williams Real Estate owner.

The scavenger hunt is underway now.

You have until Halloween to submit your answers online to the Stroud Region Open Space and Recreation Commission website to win a prize!

Spooky Stroudsburg is October 28th in Courthouse Square and includes pumpkin painting, candy handouts, and Halloween performances.
