STROUDSBURG, Pa. — It's beginning to look a lot like the holiday season in downtown Stroudsburg.
The trees are wrapped with lights, big red bows and wreaths are on the light posts. Soon, the Snowmen of Stroudsburg will line the streets.
"We have 60 snowmen going out the most now than ever, and we have ten new snowmen that are hitting the streets this Friday," said Erik Diemer, a board member with Go Collaborative.
All of the snowmen are created by artists with the non-profit Go Collaborative. Months of designing and work go into crafting each one.
"We have to order the Styrofoam, treat it, assemble it, and paint it, and it's a lot of work," said Diemer.
The structures will stick around through February. But before people can explore the downtown and snap a picture with their favorites, Go Collaborative needs some extra hands to get these works of art from storage to their winter homes.
Anyone interested in helping can show up at the Olde Engine Works building on North 3rd Street at 8:30 a.m. on Black Friday.
"It goes by pretty quick; last year, we had some good volunteers, and we were able to move one snowman per minute, which was really nice. So it makes the town look really interesting where you wake up in the morning, and there is not much going on, then boom, within the hour, there are 60 snowmen throughout town," explained Diemer.
The return of the snowmen also kicks off the Christmas season with the borough's tree lighting on Friday night.
The 35-foot tall tree in Courthouse Square is getting decked out with lights and ornaments.
"I think everyone is just really excited to have a community event that is free, get outside and get some fresh air and really feel that community warmth,"
The tree lighting in Stroudsburg's Courthouse Square is Friday night from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
