STROUDSBURG, Pa. — There is no button nose or eyes made out of coal on these snowmen, but like Frosty, these beloved sculptures have returned, bringing holiday cheer to Main Street in Stroudsburg.
Madeline Hewitt and her sister Josie hope to snap a picture with each other.
"There are ten new ones and the Grinch one we saw on my dad's phone, and that one looks really cool, so we're going to go and try to find that one," Madeline said.
This year, there are 48 snowmen. Five are located at Camelback Ski Resort in its Winter Village.
Madeline says seeing the snowmen is now a tradition for her family.
"We do it every year because we like to find them and make a book," said Madeline.
This is the sixth year that members of the artist organization GO Collaborative have displayed the sculptures.
"We pick the best of the best, and these we believe are the best representation of that. It's just so fun to get these people behind it all, and our artists are so talented here," said Jody Singer, the artist director of GO Collaborative.
As you look at the snowmen, you'll notice nearly all of their faces are facing inward towards the sidewalk. Those who put them out every year say it's all to encourage people to get out of their vehicles, take a peek at them, and also visit downtown Stroudsburg.
"A lot of the businesses are partaking in this festive event and offering specials and really fun offerings when you go into the stores, and that's really what we want people to do, and you can't see that unless you're walking in town," said Singer.
Folks in Stroudsburg say the snowmen help boost business during the slower winter months.
"They have helped tremendously, I feel, especially with the businesses, and I hope they keep doing it every year because it really helps the community and small businesses in the area," said Natacha Guzman, the lead barista at 7th Street Coffee.
The snowmen will be up until the end of February.
