Skytop Lodge prepares Thanksgiving dinner for guests

Hundreds of guests will take to the lodge for the holiday. Newswatch 16's Emily Kress gives us a look inside the kitchen.

SKYTOP, Pa. — The tables are set in the dining room at Skytop Lodge near Canadensis, ready to welcome guests for Thanksgiving.

"Skytop is all about the holidays, I think we are a magnet, with the building to come here it is just a beautiful location," said Executive Chef Chris Chludzinski.

"Memories is truly what it is about Skytop has been around since 1928 so lots of memories have been made," said Skytop General Manager Jeff Rudder.

More than 520  guests will visit Skytop for the Thanksgiving buffet.

Newswatch 16 got a look inside the kitchen, where the culinary team was hard at work prepping all of the food.

"This is in preparation for stuffing. We are going to make one batch with six pounds, fresh herbs, celery, apples."

Chef Chris Chludzinski says it takes months to craft the menu. Then, the culinary team gets to work.

"We started about five days ago with small tasks, like peeling carrots and dicing bread for stuffing," said Chef Chludzinski

The pots of turkey stock and cranberry sauce are simmering. Plus, more than 1,200 pounds of turkey will be roasted in the oven.

There are lots of traditional Thanksgiving dishes along with some special items on the menu.

"We have prime rib and turkey we are doing a baked gnocchi dish with Swiss chard and a pomegranate lacquered salmon," said Chef Chludzinski.

The afternoon buffet is sold out, but there is still a place at the table for people looking for last-minute dinner plans.

"The Windsor dining room has over 250 guests for Thanksgiving dinner, and our two other outlets have room to absorb some, so we are sold out, but there is still an opportunity to indulge," said Rudder.
