Sanofi employees embrace spirit of giving, fulfilling wishes for families in need

Dozens of families in Monroe County are getting a helping hand this Christmas.

MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — It's a special delivery for Pocono Services for Families and Children at the Mountain Center in Tobyhanna.

Bag after bag of wrapped presents were unloaded from the truck, going home to families in need.

"For some of the families, this is the only thing they have to look forward to, so it is a big event, and it is something I look forward to, and it's one of the greatest parts of my job," said Autumn Canfield, Pocono Services for Families and Children.

The bags were then carted into the gym for families who have a child in the Monroe County Head Start Program.

This is the 30th annual Adopt-a-Family event put on by employees at Sanofi Pasteur, a pharmaceutical company in Swiftwater.

This year, the employees adopted 50 families and went shopping, filling each child's wish list.

"There wasn't a lot of toys that the kids asked for; it was mainly necessities like bedding, shampoo, conditioner, cleaning supplies, things like that, a lot of clothing a well," said Shelly Tharp, Administrative Assistant at Sanofi.

The gifts aren't just for the students in the Head Start Program; Sanofi employees include their siblings, too.

"It just pulls at my heartstrings, I am an alumni of the Head Start so it hits a little bit different. I cry with my families. It means so much, honestly; it is a very emotional but exciting time of year," said Canfield.

"It is heartwarming because on Christmas morning, when we are home with our families, you know they will be opening all of these gifts, and it brings tears to our eyes, knowing that we are helping all of the families. That is what it is all about," said Kimberly Hafer, Operations Manager at Sanofi.

Families will pick these gifts up later this week.
