Route 611 reopens in Monroe County

PennDOT announced that Route 611 in Monroe County has reopened.

MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — After nearly two years, a busy stretch of road in Monroe County is reopened to the public.

PennDOT announced Route 611 is officially open to drivers as of Tuesday at 8 a.m.

It is open with one lane controlled by traffic signals.

Vehicles over 8 feet wide are prohibited on Route 611 between the Portland-Columbia Toll Bridge in Northampton County and Broad Street in Monroe County.

The changes on the road to improve the two-way traffic flow from Cherry Valley Road to Oak Street include:

  • The installation of a temporary, free-standing rockfall barrier
  • Completion of paving
  • A temporary traffic signal
  • A new signage being set up

These improvements are temporary as crews work on a more permanent solution.

"Completing this road construction project was not just a matter of convenience; it was about ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents and the prosperity of our local businesses," said U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright. "The long-awaited reopening of Route 611 demonstrates that local, state, and federal agencies and elected officials can all work together for the good of our community.

Route 611 in the Delaware Water Gap area closed in December 2022 after heavy rain caused a rockslide along Mount Minsi.
