ROSS TOWNSHIP -- A few good volunteers are needed this weekend in the Poconos.

They're needed to help build a playground in honor of those who lost their lives in a shooting at the Ross Township municipal building more than a year ago.

The grounds at the park in Ross Township have been cleared, making way for a new playground at Van Buskirk-Haney Park in memory of the victims of the municipal building shootings from more than a year ago: David Fleetwood, Gerard Kosic, and James Laguardia.

Jean Buzzard walks this park every day with her poodle Dolly. It's right next to where the tragic shooting happened in 2013. She's looking forward to seeing the memorial playground.

"I think it's wonderful. We have a lot of children that will love to come here and make use of it. It's the best thing that could happen."

All of the pieces were donated by a company from Lewisburg, and now volunteers are needed to help put it together.

Zach Reborchick of Ross Township walks the park often and says he plans to lend a hand this Saturday.

"I think it's fine for the community, and it's in remembrance of the persons who were killed on that unforeseen event," Reborchick said.

At least 25 people have already signed up and volunteered to help build this playground, but they're still looking for a few more helping hands as well as some tools to help finish these grounds.

Organizers still need volunteers to bring rakes, shovels, extension cords and wheel barrows to help put it all together.

Some feel the playground is a good step forward in the healing process.

"It was a terrible loss for everyone, and I don't know, they say time heals all wounds but I don't know if it really does or not."

Others know the events of August 5, 2013 will always remain here in their hearts, and hope this playground brings some comfort out of a tragic event.

"That pain will never go away. It's always going to be there for the families of the victims. Could it have been stopped, I don't know."

Work on the playground begins at 8 a.m. Saturday in Ross Township on Anchorage Road. Anyone is welcome to show up to help out.
