Ribbon cutting ceremony held for new park in Monroe County

Learn Road Park in Tannersville is dedicated in memory of a beloved member of the Pocono Township community.

TANNERSVILLE, Pa. — With a ribbon cut, Pocono Township officially opened Learn Road Park near Tannersville. The park is dedicated to Jane Cilurso's memory.

"Jane came on with Pocono Township in 1986 as the secretary and treasurer and finished up as president and supervisor," said Pocono Township manager Jerrod Belvin

"Everyone knew her, and everyone loved her, and she worked really hard to meet the needs of everyone," said Jane's daughter, Vickie Feinstein.

Jane died last March at the age of 86.

The township got help with the park from Jane's great-nephew, Eli Kresge.

The sophomore from Pocono Mountain East helped create this new park as his Eagle Scout project.

"I had a special bond with her. We would go out sometimes. I feel proud to see everyone here and proud of getting the trails done," said Kresge.

After the dedication ceremony, people took to the walking trails. Jane's daughter Vickie tells Newswatch 16 this park is a space her mom would have loved.

"She would want to walk it, and at the end of her life, she had a walker, and she would still want to walk. I know she would. It's beautiful and it's a lasting legacy, that is what I love about it," explained Feinstein.

"We are very lucky to have Eli do everything that he did, going way above and beyond with this. It's 127 acres, and right now, only about 1/3 are filled with trails," said Belvin.

Township officials say there are plans to expand the trails at Learn Road Park sometime next year.
