Poconos pelted by rain, snow, and wind

Many went to sleep with rain Sunday night and woke up to snow in the morning.

MOUNT POCONO, Pa. — People in Mount Pocono woke up Monday to rain turned to snow, and it was heavy.

The higher elevations saw the changeover first, so it was an early wakeup call in Mount Pocono, where it's about 2,000 feet above sea level.

The snow was a welcome sight to Jack Rarick, an Uber driver.

"Busy," Rarick said. "People don't like to drive in this."

Yes, Uber does charge more in snowstorms. The company sets the rate, not the driver.

The early morning snow didn't stop people in Mount Pocono from doing what they needed to do.

"The block where I live is on a hill. They plowed it already," Mike Morosoff said.

Morosoff said the roads weren't bad, so his trip to the gym was a breeze.

We met Michael Guerra on his way to work. The key to beating the snow was getting an early start.

"About five inches of snow, but it's heavy, so you got to get to it now because if you wait, it's going to be ice later on," Guerra said.

But snow wasn't the only challenge on this winter morning. While the intensity of the snow changed several times overnight, one thing was constant, and that was the wind.

The wind howled and hard. For a while, it snowed sideways, but the snow was so heavy, and wet drifting was not a factor. Where it fell, it stayed until the plow trucks arrived to get rid of it all.
