MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — Little pops of yellow and red are beginning to make an appearance around the lake at Tobyhanna State Park, a sign that fall is near.
"Well, we are here to kayak, and we love looking at the fall foliage; it's just starting. We could see it on our way up from 380. It was beautiful," said Mary Pidich, Moscow.
Mary Pidich made the trip from Lackawanna County. She says she's looking forward to seeing the leaves change, "I hope it's a good year, but I think it will be a good year. It looks hopeful."
Fall foliage draws lots of people to the Poconos for leaf peeping every year.
The Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau recently launched its fall foliage forecast where people can check when and where the color will be at its peak.
"Certainly, it draws a crowd each year to get a glimpse of what Mother Nature's spectacular show has to offer outdoors in the Pocono mountains," said Jim Hamill, Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau.
Every Thursday through the end of October, the forecast map is updated to cover the entire Pocono region from Wayne County down to Carbon.
"We've made intentional enhancements to our map, which allows people to see more clearly those different regions, including the northern central and southern regions, and determine through forestry officials when the peak will hit each region," said Hamill.
Peak season in monroe county is expected to arrive mid-October.
Visitors say they'll enjoy whatever colors mother nature brings to the trees.
"I like to take pictures and videos on my phone I take it right on the kayak with me," said Pidich.
