MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — The parking garage on Hood Alley in Stroudsburg borough is a popular place for people to park their cars, but people can't help but notice some bumps along the way.
“I definitely have to drive slow to the parking lot because there are potholes everywhere, and I have definitely tripped over the rebar sticking out of the holes, so it's not the best,” says Jamil Saigh, Bushkill.
“It's not fair if people are paying for permits to come here, and we all have to pay here anyway. Even if you don't have a permit, there shouldn't be any holes at all,” Justine Almodovar, East Stroudsburg.
Stroudsburg borough manager Larry Kopp says the borough knows the lot's condition and plans to make repairs.
“We've had issues over the years with our parking garage; the joints between the large concrete slabs they have been deteriorating.”
Kopp says engineers inspected the garage and deemed it structurally sound.
People tell Newswatch16 they've watched this parking garage get worse over the years, but now their main concern is that they can see the sky through the upper deck.
"Some holes go all the way through. It's not just a pothole; you can see down through it," Justine Almodovar, East Stroudsburg.
Thomas Almodovar of East Stroudsburg says, “Roads get worn out all the time. That's understandable, but when you have pieces of metal sticking out that could take out a tire or something, that is unacceptable.”
The repair project is expected to cost the borough 1.2 million dollars.
Kopp says, “We actually have 750k on hand, so we are trying to get the additional 500k in grants over the winter. The plan is to do the work next year, so hopefully, by this time next year, it will be repaired.”
Once the work begins, the borough will work one level at a time to avoid significant disruptions in Monroe County.
