Outfits for Opportunity returns on wheels

A bus traveling around Monroe County on Monday wasn't picking up riders. It was a place to help people get some new clothes.

MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — The inside of a Pocono Pony bus has transformed into a closet on wheels. With the hand rails turning into clothing racks.

"They have some really nice stuff!"

All of the clothes were donated to be part of the "Outfits for Opportunity" initiative put on by the Monroe County Bar Association.

Cindy Lang of Stroudsburg stumbled upon the bus and picked up some new dresses and shirts.

"I'm trying to go back to work part-time because I take care of my husband most of the day. He has water on the brain, so it is really nice to be able to get some really nice clothes when you can't afford it usually," said Lang.

This is the second year for outfits for opportunity and members of the Monroe County Bar Association say they wanted to make sure these clothes are where the people are.

"We had it at the bar association building, but we realized the logistics of getting to our building can be difficult for a lot of members of our community because of how diverse and spread out we are," said Hillary Madden with the Monroe County Bar Association.

The bus made three stops around the county,  and it's not all women's clothing. There were also suits, ties and other items for the men.

"When you're trying to determine whether you put food on the table or buy a nice blouse you see at the store, the answer will always be food on the table.  It's always going to be what you can do for your children at home, so we wanted to be able to give people the confidence and have some nice new items," said Madden.

Those nice new items bring a new sense of confidence while helping people in monroe county stretch their budgets.

"If I had to guess it would be like $50 probably for the dresses, for the skirts probably like $30 dollars, so it is really a treat," explained Lang.

The Monroe County Bar Association plans to make this a yearly event.
