Opening day at Habitat for Humanity's ReStore

Newswatch 16's Emily Kress takes us to a new store in Monroe County with everything you need to upgrade your home and help others in the community.

MARSHALLS CREEK, Pa. — From tubs to tiles to tools, the Monroe County Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Marshalls Creek has all sorts of things on the shelves to spruce up your home. Shoppers say they've been waiting for opening day.

"I've been going to them with my husband for years. We go all over Pennsylvania. I've gone to the ones in Jersey, and when I saw that they were putting one right here at the bottom of the mountain where I live, I was so psyched," Barbara Guarino said.

The store is located in the old Weis Market, which closed in 2018.

Purchases made here will help the nonprofit continue its mission of giving people an affordable place to live.

"We are really helping the people who really truly need the help that may not have the funds to get into the open market and buy a new home," said George Leasure, a board member of Monroe County Habitat for Humanity.

Shoppers like Barbara Guarino say there's always a project around the house to be done. She's on the hunt for a good deal on items for her kitchen.

"It's like a treasure hunt. It really is like, 'Did you see this?' When you go to stores like the regular big-box stores, it's so much more expensive."

A lot of what you'll find at the ReStore has been donated by large companies, but Habitat for Humanity will also take items off your hands that are taking up space in your home.

"If you're an individual and you've got gently used items or new items that you've just never used, give us a call so we can get it in here and help more people. It's good to give back to the community. So that is the little extra bonus you get with it," Leasure said.

The ReStore in Marshalls Creek is open Thursday through Saturday.
