EAST STROUDSBURG -- An old firehouse in East Stroudsburg that closed years ago is now open for business as a family-run tire and auto shop.
The East Stroudsburg Fire Department served the community out of the firehouse for decades, beginning back in 1926.
But in 2011, the department moved to a new firehouse, closing these doors.
Four years later the doors are open again on South Courtland Street, serving the community in a whole new way.
"I thought that you know the building was sitting here doing nothing, so I thought it needed to be something,” said Cooper’s Tire and Auto owner David Quaresimo.
David Quaresimo transformed the firehouse into a tire and auto shop--a $600,000 dollar renovation.
"Close to a year to do the renovations on the building, we had to gut it, take it down to the bare walls and start over again,” said Quaresimo.
Now it’s filled with new equipment and seven new employees.
After nearly a year of renovations, the owner had trouble finding a name for his new business. He finally decided to use Cooper's after the family dog.
Two weeks in, and already business seems to be running on all cylinders.
"Tires, alignments, all kinds of flushes. We do everything from just putting tires on to engines,” said service manager Kevin Bononno.
One driver from Henryville stopped in, curious to see the remodel.
“I knew it used to be the old firehouse and I was just, I saw it was open. I needed an oil change so I came here,” said Michael Kelleman of Henryville.
“Everybody that comes in, they love it. It's nice to see an old building actually be restored,” said Bononno.
On the second floor there are even three luxury apartments. The new owners say they’re still looking for two new tenants, feeling rather positive this renovation is the perfect fit for downtown East Stroudsburg.
"Fantastic, I'm glad we did it,” said Quaresimo.
